Technical Center Builds
Habitat for Humanity New River Valley implemented a program at Giles Technical Center in which students work with their instructor to build housing modules at the school. These modules are then moved onto a foundation at the home site, where the home is finished by volunteers and specialty contractors where required.
We have completed two homes through this program to date. Our third home is ready to move onto a foundation in Pulaski, with the move scheduled for early August 2017.
The impact of this program is important:
- A beautiful home is produced for a qualifying Habitat home buyer.
- Materials and supplies are purchased in the community where the house is constructed, creating a ripple effect.
- Students get valuable hands-on training.
In addition, volunteers get the satisfaction of knowing that they helped to create a home, and the locality benefits from a newly productive parcel of land.
