When was Habitat founded?

Habitat for Humanity NRV was founded in 1987. We are an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, which was founded in 1976. Fun facts: Millard Fuller founded Habitat, but President Jimmy Carter is our most famous volunteer.

How many homes has Habitat NRV built?

Since our affiliate was founded, we’ve built more than 40 houses! We are currently working on seven townhomes on Church Street.

Who is a Habitat home buyer?

Habitat home buyers have at least 2 years of steady income (income limits apply), managed debt, and either a credit score of 550 or two years of alternative payment histories. There is more information on our Home Buyer Program page.

What is Habitat NRV’s service area?

We serve Floyd, Giles, Montgomery and Pulaski Counties and Radford City.

Who can shop at the ReStore in Christiansburg?

The public is welcome to shop at the ReStore! We sell new and gently-used home accessories, building materials, lighting and plumbing fixtures, furniture, tools, and appliances to the public at a fraction of the retail price. Hours are Mon – Sat:, 10:00am to 5pm, Sun: CLOSED. Call 540-381-1155.

How is Habitat NRV funded?

We are funded by primarily by donors: individuals, organizations, businesses and churches who hope that everyone has a decent and affordable place to live. Net proceeds from the ReStore help pay for administrative costs so donor dollars may be spent directly on projects.

Will the ReStore pick up my donation?

The ReStore can pickup donations if you live in Blacksburg, Christiansburg, and other select areas in the NRV. We cannot accept every donation. Go to our Pickups & Donations page to see a detailed list of what we can and cannot accept. We are mostly interested in unused home project items, gently-used furniture, appliances, doors, windows, unused contractor items, etc.

What if Habitat NRV can’t help someone?

Habitat NRV makes about a dozen referrals each week, helping our neighbors find solutions for problems besides housing. We have strong relationships with service providers in the New River Valley and surrounding areas, connecting people in need to key resources.
