Giles Technical Center Builds
Habitat for Humanity New River Valley implemented a program at Giles Technical Center in which students work with their instructor to build housing modules at the school. These modules are then moved onto a foundation at the home site, where the home is finished by volunteers and specialty contractors where required.
The impact of this program is important:
- A beautiful home is produced for a qualifying Habitat home buyer.
- Materials and supplies are purchased in the community where the house is constructed, creating a ripple effect.
- Students get valuable hands-on training.
In addition, volunteers get the satisfaction of knowing that they helped to create a home, and the locality benefits from a newly productive parcel of land.
