Bringing Affordability, Accessibility, and Sustainability to Blacksburg in the Form of 11 Townhomes

We are working on an exciting project for all service providers of Blacksburg! Eleven – that’s right – ELEVEN, new townhomes are being built on Airport Road. These homes will be priced almost 40% lower than the average townhome in the Blacksburg area – isn’t that awesome! They will also have accessible and sustainable features for residents.

Our site was received from the Blacksburg Fire Safety Foundation and is partially funded by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), the Town of Blacksburg, and of course additional fundraising and donations. We thank all of our donors for their support in this project! There is a capital campaign underway to cover the remaining $2 million in costs.

This project started in the early months of 2025 and is projected to complete by the Fall of 2026. It will feature 11 townhomes with a beautiful courtyard in the middle. The townhomes will be two-story, 3-bedroom single-family homes. Four of these units will even be equipped for individuals with disabilities or seniors, as they will feature the master bedroom and full bathroom on the bottom floor. The standards of EarthCraft and the National Green Building Standards will be followed to ensure these homes are meeting the maximum potential to be sustainable.

Not only will these homes be significantly less for homebuyers, but residents will also not be paying more than 30% of their income on mortgage costs. In return, these homeowners will only be asked to sell their homes, when the time comes of course, to a qualified buyer at a restricted price. This is to really ensure that affordability within the community. The homes will be subject to provisions administered by the New River Home Trust, LLC to ensure the affordability and accessibility.

This project aims to assist in the process of homebuying. This goes especially for first-time home buyers and service providers with Blacksburg. This opportunity is also meant to reach audiences that may need to commute to Blacksburg for work, as they will be able to enjoy and establish a permanent residence at an affordable price.
